Sports

1.     Anyone interested in joining truck that is not currently in 6th period sports, please report to the track at 3:00 to sign up with Coach Zabala.

Club, Class News & Announcements

1. Peer tutoring is available Monday and Wednesday in the Career Center, Room 64.  Drop by!  Students are eager to assist in any way they can!  Learning is fun!

2. Do you have that special someone in your life?  Want a chance to be in the yearbook?  Yearbook will be holding a sweetheart booth today at lunch in the Senior Quad.  Don’t miss your chance to have a sweetheart ceremony.

3. Student Leaders:  You are invited to apply for the “American Young Ambassadors” program.  Thirty high school students will be chosen to represent the U.S. at the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.  Selection is based on significant accomplishments academically, athletically, and/or through public service.  See Dr. Swift in Room 26 for more information.  Application deadline is March 3rd.

4. Yearbook is hosting the annual Sweetheart Booth at lunch on today by the Senior Quad.  Don’t miss your chance to be in the yearbook.

5. Lil Coyote preschool is starting up again.  March 12 to June 5, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 – 10, from ages 3 – 5.  Please sign up in Room 84 or call 992-8784.

6. Are you interested in becoming an engineer?  If so, an engineer/scientist from Boeing Company will be on campus February 26th during lunch in the Career Center, Room 64.  Opportunities in the field of engineering will be discussed.

7. Attention Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors:  You are required to have a school I.D. in order to take the California High School Exit Exam.  If you don’t have an I.D., go to the Activities Office, Room 25, on Wednesdays during lunch and Mrs. Walton will take your picture for you I.D. card.

8. Students interested in participating in a speech contest February 27 please sign up with Dr. Swift today in Room 26.  She will help you organize your thoughts and practice with you.  There is prize money as an incentive to participate.

9. Are you planning to take an AP Test, but you’re not sitting in an AP class?  Have you talked to Mrs. Chow?  If not, please see her soon in Room 25 so she can order a test for you.

10.   It’s time again for the PTSA rummage sale.  Saturday, February 23rd we will set up in the parking lot from 7 am to 2:00 selling a variety of treasures.  Clear out your closets and help up make this a great event!  Students can earn community service hours by lending a helping hand.  See Mrs. Taylor to sign up.   For more information please call Melody Ciaravino at (714) 676-7461.

11.   Attention Seniors:  Representatives from Herff Jones will be in the senior English classes on Tuesday, February 19 to take measurements and distribute information regarding cap and gown rentals for graduation.

12.   High achieving students:  February is the month to reapply for CSF.  Pick up an application from an Honors teacher, from Room 26 or Room 51 and apply today!

 

Staff

1.     Staff, I could use your help with Honors Testing of 8th graders on Saturday, February 23rd.  Teachers would need to arrive by 7:30 and you would be finished by about 10:30.  Please let me know if you’re interested in earning a little extra $$ to help a good cause.  Thanks!  Beth Swift

2.     GOODY DAY is February 29th.  Refreshments will be provided by the English and Counseling Departments.

3.     Teachers – The Library of Congress is now accepting applications for its Summer Teacher Institutes, which train teacher in the use of digital primary sources.  Application deadline in March 15.   For more information go to http://memory.loc.gov/learn/summerinstitute.

4.     Teachers – Are you interested in being a “Teaching Ambassador?”  This position offers a one year fellowship to work with the U.S. Department of Education in the local community or in Washington D.C.  Applications are due April 7th and teachers are selected based on their record of leadership, impact on student achievement and contribution to the teaching field.  For more information, go to http://www.ed.gov/programs/teacherfellowship.
