PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The "New" Buena Park High School

Have you taken a look at the new Buena Park High School lately?  New, you may be asking?  I thought the school was 50 years old?  Well, when you see the accolades we have received and the programs we are offering, you may just think there is a brand new high school in our community!  If you didn’t already know, Buena Park is a hidden gem amongst High Schools in Orange County.  Our small size and personal attention, unique offerings and special programs combined with the amazing accolades we have received make this the ideal High School for students who aspire to learn and carve out a bright future for themselves!

We are eager to brag about our school and the positive impact we are having for the students in our community.  We are proud that more and more people are choosing Buena Park High School.  We even have to turn away students who want to come to us instead of their schools in our neighboring communities.  Below you will find just a sampling of the exciting things we have to share with you!

Buena Park High School Accolades

California’s Academic Performance Index (API) – BPHS has made every State target, every year!

  • Challenge Index – Newsweek lists the top schools in America based upon the number of students challenging themselves to a college-level curriculum via Advanced Placement courses and exams.  BPHS is expected to be in the top 1,000 in the nation this year out of 27,000!

  • In the last two years, BPHS graduates have been accepted at Princeton, Berkeley, Columbia, Stanford, UCLA, USC and many other top-tier, prestigious universities.

  • Korean, Chinese or Spanish spoken at home?  BPHS has the highest test score proficiency in the entire State of California!  Our teachers teach writing so well that our English Learners outperform native English speakers at other schools!

Buena Park High School Programs (Gateways to College)

Advanced Academics Academy (a BPHS exclusive) – A cohort model in which students may earn the prestigious Advanced Placement International Diploma.  (This is an internationally-recognized degree!)

  • Honors and Advanced Placement Courses – Unlike many other schools, BPHS opens access to all students who want to “challenge” themselves with a college curriculum.

  • BPHS has one of the largest AVID programs in the county which provides tutoring and other support to college-bound students taking advanced courses.

**  If you have an advanced and/or university-bound student, Buena Park High School is a smart, “strategic” decision.  Our smaller size, combined with our advanced opportunities, means your child will stand out--be the “Big Fish” as it were.  Many of our students receive impressive scholarships here whereas similar students may be overlooked elsewhere.  The University of California grants automatic admission to the top 4% of every high school’s Junior class.  Good students at larger schools often fall well short of that mark.

Good student + Buena Park High School = More College Opportunities!

We offer frequent community tours, and encourage you to visit the “New” Buena Park High School!

Dr. Wolf was appointed as the Principal of Buena Park High School in 2006.  Before coming to Buena Park, Dr. Wolf was a High School Principal in Garden Grove, an Assistant Principal in Irvine and a teacher in Whittier.  Dr. Wolf has degrees from U.C. Irvine, Cal State Fullerton and Chapman University, and in 2006 received his Doctoral Degree in Education from USC.
